   • What IE system is recognized by apparel buyers, global authorities and stakeholders?

     • Research published by University of Manchester, conducted by Prof. Doug Miller of UK says, in apparel manufacture there are three PMTS (PTS) consultancy firms specializing in Method Time Measurement (MTM). These are Sri Lanka-based Sew Easy, US-based MODAPTS and UK’s GSD (Corporate) Ltd. Prof. Miller is working at University of Northumbria now.

   • At Sheffield Hallam University, UK & University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka James Marsh, Terrence Perera, Vijitha Ratnayake and Gamini Lanarolle published their productivity oriented garment manufacturing related findings. They have examined how both Lean and Six Sigma has been applied; and appear to say that both approaches blend in to lower overall costs, while improving the Environmental Sustainability. Ratnayake stated elsewhere that, the Hirdaramani Group as outstanding in practicing Industrial Engineering in Sri Lanka Apparel sector, and emphasized that MAS, Brandix, Maliban, Timex and many others are well above global average in Environmental Sustainability as well.

7. Why use modern IE, work-study techniques?

   • PMTS is a database of different operation sewing times for method analysis and setting up of time standards for needle trade environment such as cutting, sewing, pressing, examination and packing.
